A group of junior doctors is making their own legal challenge to the imposed contract after raising more than £50,000 towards their costs in one day.

The four junior doctors launched their project yesterday calling for £25,000 to begin procedures.

But in the course of the day they raised £54,000 – putting them well on the way to the £100,000 fund they would need for a “working” fund to take the case to court and cover their expected costs.

The case will be based on evidence collected at the recent hearing of the House of Commons public accounts committee where a senior civil servant said they were “flying blind.”

The doctors plan to challenge “many aspects” of the decision and the drive to create a “seven-day” NHS that could affect patient safety.

They say a court hearing would require the Health Secretary to produce evidence to support his actions……..
