At least 14,000 junior doctors have been on strike this week, according to official figures.

NHS England said that yesterday some 56% of juniors did not report for day time shifts on the second day of action. The 44% who reported for work included those rostered for emergency duties.

The figures suggest support for the strike was at least as strong as in February when doctors fought a last-ditch battle against contract imposition.

No figures for the level of support for the strike on Wednesday have been released.

On the day of the February strike, some 57% of juniors were reported to have been on strike. At the time health secretary Jeremy Hunt claimed declining support for strike action………….
